2022

Hello, friends!

And Happy New Year! 2022 has got to be... well... a whole other year at the very least.

The beginning of a new year seems like a good time stop and reflect on where things are going. How far have we come? What's left to do? When will we finally be ready for a release?

One lesson I've been taught time and again is to not make a promise on timelines. If I was running a bigger project with a bigger budget, I could fix some of these scheduling problems by throwing money at them. More staff, more specialists, more delegation. But I'm doing a ton of things on my own here, and there's only so much of me to go around.

I've thought a few times about bringing on some programming or writing support, but I worry about the time spent bringing them up to speed and then managing them. I might go for it anyway. Still undecided.

Anyway, when it comes to a release in 2022, the magic 8 ball answer is... signs says no.

Still have too much content to write and implement. I have a clear idea of what that content needs to be, but I also know that there's too much of it to finish this year. And I can't trim it back really. Got to keep pressing forward.

But hey, no worries about money in the meantime.

As for how far we've come:

  • 200,000 lines of code

  • 1.5 MB of pure text (txt format)

  • 100+ narrative character images

  • 100 narrative backgrounds

  • 72 sketches and other special narrative images

  • 30 animated combat figures

  • 75 minutes of original music

...and so much more that is harder to quantify. It is SO MUCH. And some days it still feels like so little, cause there's a lot left to do.

Maybe we can release in '23. Maybe.

Thank you for your patience, and for sticking around through this. We will get there.
